If you’re Christian, this is an important spot to visit

We include Caesarea in many of our Israel tours. Because of its proximity to Jerusalem (approximately 75 miles), it’s an easy spot to add to any tour of the Holy Land.

Israel is full of places to visit. Some are of historical significance, and others are more of a religious significance. And, of course, lots of locations and sites are BOTH.

I want to tell you about one of those spots you probably haven’t thought of (yet).

Caesarea Maritima.

If your Latin is as poor as mine, the city's name is important: it’s an ancient Roman (oceanside) city named after Caesar Augustus. It’s a gorgeous place, and of the hundreds of reasons to visit, here are the top FIVE:

First, you’ll be in the place where a Roman centurion, Cornelius, became the first Gentile to receive the Holy Spirit. If you’re not Christian, that likely seems insignificant. But if you ARE Christian, you’ll understand what a world-changing, amazing event happened here. It was also the home of Philip the Evangelist, the apostle who converted the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8.

Second, the Apostle Paul was imprisoned here. Including the trial, Paul probably spent two years (or more) in the prisons of Caesarea. He also wrote many of his letters while in jail here. They’re often called the Prison Epistles. Paul also appealed to Caesar himself from this location.

Third, you’ll see an ancient Roman spa and a spot where chariot (horse) racing occurred. Whether citizens wanted to unwind by being pampered or watching sports, this was the place to come. You’ll experience the spot, too.

Fourth, few ancient cities are more beautiful than Caesarea Maritima. The combination of the beautiful weather, the ancient ruins, and the Mediterranean Sea make for unimaginable views and unforgettable scenery.

Fifth, you might not know that Caesarea was the capital of Israel during the Roman conquest. When you visit, you’ll see all the amazing columns and all the magnificence that comes from being such an important place. Even an amazing amphitheater that you’ll visit. The beauty of this place is almost indescribable!

IMPORTANT:

We include Caesarea in many of our Israel tours. Because of its proximity to Jerusalem (approximately 75 miles), it’s an easy spot to add to any tour of the Holy Land.

Unveiling the Magic of Venice Carnival: A Timeless Celebration | Tradition Tours

Unveiling the Magic of Venice Carnival: A Timeless Celebration | Tradition Tours

This week, let’s step into a world where fantasy and reality blur, where the streets and canals of Venice become the stage for a spectacle like no other. The Venice Carnival (taking place this week) is not just an event; it's a portal to another era, a time when the city transforms under the magic of masks and costumes, music and laughter filling the air. This is where history dances in the streets, and every corner holds a story.

A Time-Traveling Celebration

Imagine stepping back into the 11th century, where it all began—not with a solemn ceremony but with the joyous celebration of victory. The Venice Carnival started as a jubilant feast marking Venice's triumph over Aquileia but quickly grew into something more. It became the city's heartbeat, a yearly escape into a world where anything was possible, hidden behind the anonymity of a mask.

Reviving the Grandeur

There was a time when the Carnival's lights dimmed under the weight of history, but Venice, ever resilient, breathed life back into its cherished tradition. Today, the Carnival stands as a dazzling testament to the city's spirit, blending ancient customs and modern-day zest that captivates the world.

The Carnival Comes Alive

Venice becomes a living canvas of colors and sounds as the Carnival unfolds. The Grand Canal sparkles with a parade of boats, each more elaborate than the last, their reflections dancing on the water like jewels under the sun. Artisans tucked away in hidden workshops breathe life into masks, each a key to a new persona and adventure.

The heart of the festivities beats in St. Mark's Square, where the air is thick with anticipation and the echoes of centuries-old music. Here, under the watchful eyes of history, masquerade balls rekindle the flame of Venice's wealthy past, with revelers swirling in a dance that blurs the lines between then and now.

Behind Every Mask, A Story

In Venice during Carnival, every mask tells a tale, from the mysterious "Bauta" to the coquettish "Colombina." These are not mere disguises but relics of a bygone era, each with its own place in the Carnival's lore. They invite whispers of intrigue and tales of romance, weaving a complex web of stories that form the Carnival's soul.

A Feast for the Senses

Amidst the whirlwind of sights and sounds, the Carnival also delights the palate. The air is sweet with the scent of "frittelle" and "galani," treats that have tempted Venetians for centuries, each bite a delicious nod to tradition.

The Final Act

As the Carnival reaches its zenith, all eyes turn to the "Volo dell'Angelo," where bravery meets beauty in a breathtaking spectacle. It's a moment that captures the essence of the Carnival, a blend of daring and grace that leaves the crowd spellbound.

Venice Awaits

The Venice Carnival is more than an event; it's an experience, a journey back in time that invites you to lose yourself in its enchantment. It's a chance to live a tale of mystery and celebration, to become part of Venice's vibrant tapestry, if only for a moment. So, don your mask, let the music guide your steps, and step into the magic of the Carnival, where every corner of Venice whispers tales of past glories and present delights. Though the Carnival only takes place over two weeks each year, Traveling to Venice with Tradition Tours is always an enchanting experience regardless of when you travel.
